We all desire sparkling white teeth, so that we get to smile without hesitation. White teeth make us look more attractive, beautiful and smart. Healthy teeth means a happy smile. Yellow teeth should not be allowed to take this charm away from us! This common problem should be dealt with for once and all!

When I asked Shahnaz Husain, the beauty legend her opinion on white teeth, she said,

“Beauty is a total impact and the teeth are indeed very much a part of it. In fact, when you have sparkling white teeth, you can meet and greet others with confidence. It plays an important role in the impression we make on others. It is as much a part of grooming as clothes and make-up.”

So, with her inputs on my tips, I have here for you top 10 natural ways that you can use to whiten your teeth without causing them any harm! We tell you what and how to use respectively.

1. Lemon peels

Lemon peels can be used to clean and whiten teeth. The white part of the lemon peel should be used. A few drops of lemon juice can be put on the white part of the peel and then use it to rub the teeth. The acid in lemon juice has a whitening effect. As already mentioned, the white part contains d-limenene, which helps to whiten the teeth.

2. Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal should be used. It is said to clean the teeth and draw out toxins. This also helps to removes stains from the teeth. It is should be in the form of a powder and should be used to rub on the teeth like tooth powder. Spit out charcoal and rinse mouth thoroughly with water. (It may seem crazy, yes! But trust Shahnaz Husain and me, it works!)

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe has been a common home remedy for many problems. It is also said to whiten teeth. It can be mixed with baking soda to make a toothpaste to clean the teeth. It helps to remove yellow stains on the teeth. It also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature and this has a whitening effect on the teeth. It can be used to rinse the mouth, or it can be mixed with baking soda and used on the teeth, rubbing gently. Apple cider vinegar removes the stubborn stains on the teeth, particularly from the coffee and nicotine. This effectively brightens and whitens the teeth with its acidity property that removes the stains and discoloration. It also kills the germs that affect the teeth and clears the gum and other teeth problems. Make sure not to use too frequently as this damages the tooth enamel.

5. Strawberries

Strawberries contain malic acid, which helps to remove stains from the teeth. A pulp should be made of a few strawberries and the paste can be used to rub the teeth. Strawberry is rich in vitamin C and also has astringent property that helps break down the plaque that causes the yellowness in your teeth and finally gives you pearly white teeth.

6. Hydrogen Peroxide

A few drops of hydrogen peroxide may be mixed with baking soda and then rubbed on the teeth. Hydrogen peroxide has a bleaching effect. Alternatively, mix water and hydrogen peroxide in equal quantities and swirl the mixture in the mouth for a few seconds only. Then spit it out and rinse mouth with water. Food grade hydrogen peroxide should be used. Make sure to use this remedy with caution as it can cause irritation of the gums and may make teeth more sensitive. Also, avoid swallowing this peroxide while gargling to get rid of the side effects of irritation and other effects.

7. Turmeric

Turmeric is also said to have a mild bleaching effect. It is also a natural antiseptic and keeps teeth and gums healthy. It is better to use the turmeric root, making a paste out of it. Mix one teaspoon turmeric with half teaspoon each coconut oil and baking soda. This can be used like toothpaste, brushing the teeth with a toothbrush.

8. Orange peels

Peel an orange and rub the under part, i.e. the white part on the teeth. The white part is said to contains d-limenene, just like lemon peels, which helps to whiten the teeth. You can also use dried orange peel powder if you don’t have a fresh orange peel. Vitamin C and calcium in the orange peel can combat micro-organisms in your teeth to get relief from the problem.

9. Coconut oil pulling

This is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy, not only for cleansing and whitening teeth, but also to remove toxins from the body. It can be done with coconut oil or any vegetable oil. About a tablespoon of oil is taken into the mouth and swirled around, also literally pulling it through the teeth for 15 minutes. The oil mixes with saliva and the swirling activates enzymes, which draws out toxins from the blood stream. After 15 minutes, the oil is spat out and the process ends with drinking two to three glasses of water. Remember to do oil pulling first thing in the morning, before eating anything or before even brushing your teeth.

10. Baking Soda

Last but not the least, baking soda or bicarbonate of soda can be used on the teeth to whiten them. It has a mild abrasive effect, which removes stains on the teeth. It may be used by itself like a tooth powder, rubbing it on the teeth for a minute and then rinsing well with water. A few drops of lemon juice can make it more effective, as lemon juice also has a mild bleaching effect.Using baking soda will instantly whiten the teeth but its long term usage can be harmful to the protective enamel of your teeth. Remember that excessive usage of baking soda can damage the teeth’s natural enamel, so don’t get over-excited.
